Oregon Unions Against Racism

“The Oregon AFL-CIO vowed to act against hate crimes and racist harassment, which have been on the rise in the aftermath of last month’s presidential election.

Tom Chamberlain, president of the group, which represents some 300,000 workers in the state, said that the increase in these types of incidents, as noted in a report released by the Southern Poverty Law Center last week, is unacceptable, especially when they happen in the workplace.

As for what the union can do, the executive board passed a resolution on Friday that calls for a strategy to help its members report hate crimes and incidents of racial harassment. As a first step, the union will be launching a hotline in the coming weeks designed to help workers report these types of incidents and direct them to the appropriate resources.”
